A ready product is the right buy when your work matches it. It becomes expensive when every exception is a sheet, a WhatsApp group and a person who remembers the rule.
The package demo looks complete. After go-live, the cases that matter — a discount the owner approves, a step that skips a department, a report the auditor asks for — do not exist in the product. Staff keep the old sheet for those cases. Within a month the sheet is the real system again.
Custom software is justified when those exceptions are the business, not the edge. It is a poor buy when a product we already sell covers the work. We say which is which before a build starts.
The engagement starts with the flow, including the exceptions. A first milestone is a slice you can click. Later milestones add the branches. You are not asked to imagine the finished system from a slide.
The exceptions are listed before anyone builds them
The sheet and the chat stop being the system
You see a working slice before the full build
The process and the code are contracted, not rented as a surprise
A bought tool matches the demo and misses the exception your staff handle every day.
Excel and WhatsApp become the system of record beside the software.
A custom quote is a lump sum with no list of what “done” means.
The first version tries to include every future branch and slips.
Nobody is sure who owns the data and the code when the project ends.
We map the daily flow and the exceptions before recommending a build or one of our products.
If a product covers it, we say so. Custom is for the work the product cannot hold.
The quote lists the flows in the first release and the flows that wait.
The first milestone is usable. Later ones add branches you have already seen.
Ownership of what we build is written in the contract, including your data.
Who does the work today, where the sheet still wins, and what must be in the first release.
One path you can click with your own sample data.
Exceptions from the scope, in the order you ranked them.
The old sheet stays until a week of real work matches.
No. If school fees, hospital OPD, a hotel desk, a kitchen, payroll or a lab is the job, start with that product. Custom is for a flow those products do not cover.
We can give a range. A fixed price needs the flows in writing. A price given before that list is a guess, and we would rather not pretend it is a quote.
What the contract says you own, you own, including the right to your data. We do not hide that in a later conversation. Ask for it in the quote.
This page is the decision: build, or use a product. The service page is how an engagement runs once you have decided to build. Read both if you are comparing.

The project starts from a paragraph and grows in chat. A custom software engagement writes the first release, the price and the milestone you can click.

A brochure site looks finished and still leaves orders, applications or bookings in email. Web development here means the page that does the job.

The tool is bought, then the process is bent to fit it. Consultancy is the decision before the purchase: what the work is, and what not to buy.
